

We are seeking a Usability & Human Factors Specialist to join our dynamic & growing team. Our ideal candidate will have worked within the medical devices industry and conducted usability evaluations in accordance with BS EN 62366-1 & the FDA’s guidance for applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to Medical Devices.
Being able to demonstrate an understanding of the product design process is essential, especially the understanding of risk management and how usability engineering and risk management interlink.
We are looking for a person who is both driven and passionate for the subject matter, an individual who can lead all aspects of usability engineering, but who can also demonstrate solid technical capabilities and apply mechanical/industrial design engineering skills to products as they are both being developed and as design changes are required.
The ideal candidate will be able to take responsibility for all aspects of usability engineering activities; scope & plan how usability engineering will be applied to a development, able to conduct independent research (conduct task analysis of both competitor and own proprietary products, generate a known problems analysis, develop and maintain both Use FMEA & risk analysis table for a development), generate the Use Specification, conduct interviews/focus groups/immersive environment studies, evaluate & transpose findings into user requirements, plan both formative & summative evaluations and take responsibility for assessing data from post market surveillance activities as appropriate for the development at hand.
The ideal candidate will be qualified at MSc/PhD level within an appropriate engineering subject matter, able to communicate well with colleagues and have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to listen to user accounts and capture findings appropriate to the development, be self-motivated, plans activities based on development requirements, and is able to work to, and communicate progress to deadlines.
A good understanding of SolidWorks CAD is desired in addition to the Microsoft Office applications, Adobe XD &/or Figma.

4-weeks with opportunity to combine with Major Project
During the 4-week placement you will be included into the day-to-day operations of a busy design consultancy, getting that valuable exposure needed to stand out as a graduate engineer. We are eager to support MSc students who would like to extend their placement and focus their Major Project on a live Medical Device or Life Science brief.
